The question

Is the information behind this decision complete, and do we understand what it says?

Clients are asked to act on material they did not commission and cannot easily test: a vendor’s report, a consultant’s proposal, a contractor’s scope, a package of certificates. Before the technical merits, there is a simpler question: is it complete, current and the right document for this decision?

What we do

We check the information behind a decision against what the decision needs: whether it is complete, current, properly instructed and prepared by an appropriately registered firm. We explain in plain terms what it says, attributed to its author, and identify the questions to put back to that author. Where a client wants a further view, we help it appoint a registered firm to provide it, contracting directly with the client.

Information completeness checks: Checking that the reports, certificates and documents behind a decision are complete, current and consistent with what was instructed, and listing what is missing.
Appointment and scope checks: Checking that a consultant’s or contractor’s appointment covers the questions the client needs answered, and that the firm holds the registrations the work requires.
Questions for authors: A clear set of questions for the authors of reports and proposals, so that gaps are closed by the people responsible for the work.
Commissioning further specialist input: Helping a client decide whether further input on engineering work is worth commissioning, and appointing an appropriately registered firm to provide it.
